Unable to use mouse after start up

I am running XP using on a Dell 4600 with a Microsoft
Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 which is a USB device. When I
boot the system up I can utilize the keyboard to navigate
through the Start menus but I can not use the mouse. This
problem seems to have started after I completed update
KB822603 but removing the update did not clear the
problem.

I have also attempted to update the mouse driver but the
version I have appears to be the newest.

I can clear the problem if I open the Task Manager and
then close.

Thoughts?

Kevin,

Have you tried system restore to go back to a date before you did the
udpdate that caused the problem? Another option is to remove the driver
for the mouse then reinstall.
