Unable to upgrade Home to Ultimate

I have made multiple attempts to upgrade my PC from Vista Home Premium to
Ultimate.
I purchased the upgrade from MS and have clicked on the link I received in
my email.
The install/upgrade starts and continues for over an hour, just as it is
almost complete I get the following message:

"Windows could not configure one or more system components. To install
Windows, restart the computer and then restart the installation."

When I click the close button I get a black screen and have to power down
with the power button.
After I power back up I am told the upgrade failed and the computer is
rolling back to the previous install.

Any suggestions what I need to do? I tried to contact MS but without the
PID they will not help me, and I can not get it until Monday.
I have a DVD of Home Premium that includes the "Anytime Upgrade" words on
the disk.

Thanks.

After I get the PID could I do a clean install directly to Ultimate or would
I have to install to Home Premium then goto Ultimate?
