Unable to uninstall Exchange Instant Messaging Service

I am attempting to migrate to Exchange 2003 Enterprise Edition. Currently I have Exchange 2000 Standard Edition. One of the steps in the upgrade process is to remove the Exchange Instant Messaging Service. When I attempt to remove it, I get the following error:

Setup encountered an error while checking prerequisites for the component "Microsoft Exchange Instant Messaging Service":
0X80072030 (8240): There is no such object on the server.

I know I have it installed because we are currently using it. Please advise.

One other question that might help me bypass this all together:
I am actually not upgrading the Exchange 2000 box. I have created a new Windows Server 2003 box that I will be putting Exchange 2003 on. Then I'll move all the mailboxes to the new server and retire the old Exchange 2000 box. Do I even need to worry about removing the IM service?

Thank you in advance for all of your help.

Thank you Andrea, you've pointed me back to my own post over on msexchange.org. I think I like their newsgroups better. I get a faster response time even though I'm a TechNet subscriber.

I would consider this topic closed.
