Unable To Start Server Service- svchost.exe

This problem has me stumped and I hope someone can give me some help.

I can't share any hard drives or folders on a local computer network. When
I try to share a drive or folder on my network I get a error message: "The
Server Service is Not Started. The Shared Service was not Created at this
time"

When I go into run>services.msc and right click on 'server', I see the
service is stopped (it is set on automatic). I try and restart the service
but then I am greeted with a new error message: "Could not start the
server service on local computer. Error 2 The system cannot find the file
specified" The file it is looking for is svchost.exe I believe.

I checked the processes and find 5 copies of svchost.exe running. The file
is indeed in windows/system32 where it said it can't find that file. Argh!

I did a AVG virus scan and a Spybot S&D scan and both came up clean.

How do I get that server service to start up again so I can share drives
and folders?

Thanks

Al

Regards,

Hi Patti!

This worked out great! I was missing the srv.sys file. I followed the
instructions and everything is now working 100%. I am able to share folders
and drives.

I appreciate the help!! Thanks a ton! :)
