Unable to shut down

Hello to all. I am having a problem with Outlook 2003. When I open the
program, it functions without issue, but after I close it, the Outlook icon,
along with another icon titled "Microsoft Office Customer Experience
Improvement Program" (ironic, isn't it?) remain in the system tray. They
provide no menu or way of removing them, and when I try to reopen Outlook,
nothing happens. The only way I can remove them is to restart the computer.
And to top it off, these icons create a problem with my Winfax Pro program,
locking it and the modem up when an incoming fax arrives. Any ideas?
