I'm trying to set up my yahoo mail in windows mail, and i've successfully
recieved mail into my inbox, but I am unable to send mail out. When I try I
run in to this error message:

The host 'smtp' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the
server name correctly.
Subject 'test', Account: 'Windows Mail', Server: 'smtp', Protocol: SMTP,
Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

Please help!

"smtp" is not a valid mail server name.
Is your Yahoo account a free one, a paid one ('Mail Plus'), or partnered
with an ISP (AT&T, Verizon)?
US-based free Yahoo accounts have webmail access only, no
POP access. Windows Mail handles POP mail but not Yahoo webmail.
Yahoo's solution is to pay them for premium "Mail Plus" service:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/overview/index.html
and use the special settings for that service:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/pop/pop-14.html

If you need more help, post back with additional information about your
Yahoo account.

I have mail plus, which I got with the understanding that I needed it in
order to connect my yahoo mail with windows mail. I have changed all the
settings required, and when trying to send I again recieve the same error
message, which confuses me because it states "Protocol:stmp, Port:25" which I
have changed to 465 as the link you gave me calls for....

Please let me know if there is anything else I can try.

Your reply is not going to help.
Try to send an e-mail out, copy and post the NEWEST error message.
Have you changed the smtp server name as Gary told you ?
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com
NOTE : it is smtp NOT stmp
To summarize, these are the settings you are supposed to change
1. smtp server name : plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com
2. port # is 465
3. Secure(SSL) : Yes

Is the error message I recieve when I try to send a message.

I realize that the error message is saying that the server port and secure
connection are at the wrong settings, that is why I'm confused, because I
have changed (AND applied and saved) the correct settings. I'm not slow, I
know how to follow direction. I have done everything you suggested multiple
times BEFORE I came to this forum. Is there possibly another way I can fix
this problem.

I don't know why your changes aren't taking. I suggest you delete that account,
restart Windows Mail, then recreate the account with the correct settings.

She would have had to click on the X in the upper right corner of that
window. Hopefully she would know that has the same result as Cancel.
