I have just started using windows mail instead of outlook, i have sent and
recieved messages from my office without problem.

I am working from home this morning and i keep getting the same message:

An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'Stamford Baselayer', Account:
'mail.simplybaselayer.com', Server: 'mail.simplybaselayer.com', Protocol:
SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0B

I recieved emails today but not been able to send any.

Many Thanks

Had the same problem with windows mail. My service provider uses an IMAP
server thru GMAIL. When I first set up VISTA I used a password to log in
when my computer booted up. As soon as I went into the Control Panel,User
Accounts and set up my account not to require a password to log in, my
windows mail started giving me the same problems described in the forum.
I went into Windows Mail, deleted my accounts, then went into Control
Panel set up the same Login password as I had deleted. I then recreated my
Email accounts. After doing these tasks, my email has worked just fine!!

What you experienced is normal.
Simplybaselayer.com is not your ISP. As such, your home ISP will block
your use of any port 25 SMTP server other than their own.
For an explanation of this policy, see
http://www.postcastserver.com/help/Port_25_Blocking.aspx

To send from home, you will have to substitute your home ISP's
SMTP server. If you need help with that, let us know who your
home ISP is.

Gary,

Many thanks for your advice, my home ISP is Sky Broadband if you could help
that would be magic.

Cheers

This gets a little complicated, but just follow these steps:

1. Go to Tools, Accounts, select the simplybaselayer account,
click Properties, Servers.
Change the name of the outgoing (SMTP) server
to smtp.tools.sky.com. Also, make sure that "My server
requires authentication" is checked.
Click the adjacent "Settings" button. Select "Log on using"
then enter your Sky email address and password.

2. Go to the Advanced tab and change the port number for the
outgoing (SMTP) server to 465, and enable the associated
SSL option. Do not change any receiving parameters.Click OK.
Try sending.

Thank you!!!!! - I've been trying to figure this out for 2 weeks and was
about to give up. This explanation should be given to all who buy computers
that have Vista on them. Thanks again!!!
