Unable to run sfc.exe

When I try to run sfc.exe it flashes the window for it
very quickly on the screen then closes.
Does someone have a suggestion as to why this happens and
how to fix it.

Open a CMD.exe prompt.

type
SCF /Scannow

I'm new to this group as of today and came looking for the exact same
solution. Just started having the problem this afternoon.

In RUN, typed: sfc /scannow as I've been doing weekly for a year and the
screen flashed once and vanished. Poof, nothing.

Did a search for sfc.exe, found it, double clicked and... the screen flashed
once and vanished. Poof.
Obviously something different happened today somewhere.
