I just bought a new computer with Windows XP Professional and wanted to install a macro from Microsoft ("Macros9") that among other things allows me to port autotexts from my older machine. The security settings on my new machine wont allow me to run the macro. I am the default administrator. The security is set high and I’m listed as a regular user.
1. I can’t figure out how to set the security lower so I can use the macros.
2. I tried to run the program MS word as the administrator, as I believe this would permit me to use the macros. I found that to run the program as the administrator, I had to hold down the shift key, right click and select “run as…†which I did.
3. I then selected “The following user: User name†– “Administrator†I had left my password blank because I’m the only one using this machine. When I clicked “OK†it told me that blank passwords are not permitted.
4. I then set a password for myself as administrator and rebooted the machine. I then went through the procedures again, clicking “Run as†and selecting the administrator’s option. I typed in the password (which worked to log on initially) and instead I got an error message, which read: “Unable to log on: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.â€
I’d like to be able to set the security levels lower and I also like to run a program as an administrator. I can’t figure out how to do either and have wasted several hours. If anyone could help, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
Bob McNult
