Sharing frustration

I use Windows XP Pro on a network of CAT5 peer-to-peer with other PCa. One
of my responsibilities is to backup the data on the computers on a regular
basis.

As a network administrator and a computer administrator I have the same
password on each pc. I have full access to information on two of the pc’s.
But there is one pc I can not access.

Using the share feature of the Windows Explorer I have set up sharing access
for myself. I have gone through the Control Panel and Administrative Tools
to the Computer Management and share windows to see if I have access. I have
turned off the Zone Alarm v. 7 security suite. Nothing I do allows me to
access the pc data.

I’m not trained in networking so I asked a friend who is. He couldn’t fine
the problem either. I’m Frustrated. Can anyone see where the problem might
be?

Go to Network Connections in the control panel. (Highlight) Select the
connection by clicking once. In left panel select Change Settingsof This
Connection.

In the Local Area Connection properties box WRITE DOWN all of the services
with a checkmark. Do the same on a computer that you can connect to. You
should find either a missing service, or an additional service. Using the
install or uninstall tab make the two systems look exactly alike. However, be
sure to verify that the one machine isn't doing something that the others are
not tasked with. In either event you have everything wriiten down so if you
find out later that you took away an added service, you can just put them
back using install/uninstall.

That shoud do it. Ouside of that you have a bad switch port, NIC, or cable.
