I'm a standard user and I'm am unable to rename desktop icons, if I click
rename, it just never gives me an edit box. If I go into
users\username\desktop, I can rename the icons there, just not from the
desktop.

Also, if I go into a different user, that user can rename the icons.

I did notice that I'm also unable to rename my icons on my XP box as well.

Is there maybe one icon that's screwing this up or did I lock my desktop
somehow?

Thanks!

Which icons are you trying to rename - IE and Recycle Bin? Those aren't
easily done the normal route.

No. I'm trying to rename anything on the desktop, like Quicken, iTunes,
etc. I hit F2 or right click->rename and I don't go into edit mode.

In a different user, it works. Seems as if I have this same problem on my
XP box too.

It's like there's either 1 icon that's corrupted things or somehow I locked
something? I'm not really sure. It's weird because I can rename if I go
into windows explorer desktop folder.

It also doesn't matter if it's an icon that's on my desktop or the public
desktop.

Any thoughts?

Have you tried doing a System Restore to a point in time before you started
experiencing this problem then try deleting again?

No, I'm not sure how long ago it happened. Not looking to do something so
drastic. It's not that big of a deal.

I figured there might be something locked or a registry key to edit or some
other way like that to fix it.

Figured I wouldn't be the only one with this problem.

Any other ideas?
