Unable to remove toolbar

I am running windows SP2 with ZoneAlarm and Ad-Aware installed.My PC was
attacked by adware recenly.It created a protection toolbar consists of few
security programs.An icon also appear on the taskbar.As and when the adware
will pop up and I feel very irritating.I try to run my ZoneAlarm and Ad-aware
thinking that to get rid these pop up,but failed.Please assist me to remove
the toolbar and the icon.

Check in Add/Remove Programs first and un-install any listed program that you
think my be related to this toolbar.


Also, AD Aware does not find / remove all adwares. Also, try running:

Spybot: Search and Destroy 1.4
CWShredder (to remove Cool Web Search and its variants.)
Soyware Terminator

Also, try several on-line adware removal web sites:

Pestpatrol
Trendmicro's Housecall

You could also try Microsoft's Windows Defender.


Also, HihJackThis is the "ultimate" spyware/adware removal tool, but it is
"unforgiving." Look for a web forum to guide you with its use.

Without knowing the name of the "protection toolbar" and the "security
programs", I can't give you specific advice. Here are general removal
steps:

Include scanning with either Sysclean or Multi_AV, plus Ewido. Do all
prep/finishing work and follow instructions to do all scans in Safe
Mode.

Look at the information at these links to try and determine if your
infection is a Winfixer or a Smitfraud type. The Smitfraud variants
seem to be more prevalent now, although there has been a sudden rash of
Winfixer in my area of the world lately. If your infection matches one
of them, run the specific removal tools. It will certainly not hurt if
you run both these tools, but it will be more work.

When all else fails, run HijackThis and post your log in one of the
specialty forums listed at the first link above (not here, please).

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting
this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a professional
computer repair shop (not your local version of BigStoreUSA).
