Unable to remove programmes

I have recently purchased McAfee Internet Security Suite 6
to replace my previous version. I downloaded it and the
installed it because when I went to the Add/Remove
Programmes in Control Panel before installing it, almost
every programme was greyed out so that when I clicked on
them I was unable to remove anything. Can anybody advise
me what I have done wrong, or, more to the point, how do I
correct it.

Hit CRTL-ALT-DEL (all three at the same time, the 3 fingered salute)
now log off and log on as the administrator. It is a must for
installing and uninstallng programs.
