The file was created with Excel 2000 (9.0.6926 SP3) on Windows 2000 Pro. It
opened fine on another PC with exact same version. But with Excel 2003
(11.8117.8122) SP2 on Windows XP Pro, this file cannot be opend with the
message; Unable to read file. Does anyone encounter this situation?

If you click the tiny arrow next to the "open" button of the file open dialog,
you can select "Open and repair". Does that help at all?

Hi Jan,

Thanks but I cann't find the tiny arrow nor "Open and repair". Is this for
repairing the file to be opend?
I performed "Help>Detect and Repair..." to make sure my Excel 2003 is fine.
But somehow, this file cannot be opend only with 2003. With 2000, it is fine
to be opend.

Hi Jan,

Thanks but it did not resolve the issue with "Open and repair". Since Excel
2000 can open this file, the file itself might not be corrupted. Very weird
situation I have now. Your tip will be very helpful in future.

Hi Moon73,
Since Excel
2000 can open this file, the file itself might not be corrupted.

Try to open the file in 2000, save-as to HTML (web site) filetype,
close and open the html file and save-as back to normal workbook
filetype.

Hi Jan,

Thanks. I could not save back to xls from HTML. Save as selections are htm,
html, mht or txt once I open HTML with IE.

Is there a way to save back to xls?

Regards,
Moon73
