"Unable to read file" after Excel crash - how to recover the file??

I was working with excel file - ~650KB size, containing macros (which
extracts data from another file in same directory) and pivot tables, main
worksheet is ~1000rows x 30 columns big, environment: Win2000, Office2000.
While working with that file I got message "EXCEL.exe has generated errors
and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program."
After restart I am not able to open the file anymore:
- it starts to open
- Excel asks if I accept macros
- no matter if I answer yes or no, it says "Unable to read file"

I need to recover the file in any case.
Any idea how?
