When I try to open an attachment, I get the message that there is no program
associated with this. Set Association in control panel. I do not see an
option in the control panel for "set associations"

Save one to the Desktop.
Right click it and select open with.
Choose the proper program and check the box to always use.

No. I have this problem with both pdf and docx files, neither of which will
open from Windows Mail, but both will open from a saved copy on the desktop.

I've tried the desktop save thing, they can open. They just cannot open from
Microsoft Mail. I've also done the actions on the winhelponline.com, which
don't help the situation either.

I think there is some issue with having Outlook 2003 installed before, which
has been removed.

Some things work - avi will open from mail, for example.

So all the actions so far have been done, without success.

Scott, go to Default Programs, either on the start menu or in Control
Panel>select Set your default programs, wait for the list to populate,
select windows mail and ensure that it has all its defaults set.

The only file type in the default Windows Mail is .eml.

The mail attachment shows a little icon, but I get the set associations box
every time.
