Unable to reach shared resources in a two system LAN.

I have two computers running Windows XP.
System 1 runs XP Pro and System 2 (an HP) runs XP Home, preloaded.

They are forming a LAN thru a Linksys router, by which they both access
the Internet.

Both systems belong to the same Workgroup, and both have the same user
accounts, with the same usernames and password (blank).

I can see the other system from each Network Neighborhood, but I can
only reach the shared files residing on System 2, from System 1.
When I try to reach the shared folders on SYstem 1, from System 2,
I am prompted for username and password, and no matter what I provide
I get rejected. I believe that if the username and passwords are the
same I should not even be prompted for them.

I have seen the advise given to Kysiow, and I followed it.
But it did not solve the problem.

Thank you

Thank you

George,

I'm not sure what advice was given to Kysiow, but I'll start here. If this does
not solve your problem, we'll continue. Is Computer 1 running Simple or
Advanced File Sharing? With XP Home being the other computer, using SFS makes
sense. But, if Simple FS is enabled, you have to enable the Guest account, for
network access.

Also, look for a misconfigured or overlooked personal firewall, or other
security component. There are several other possibilities too, and any might be
the cause of your problem. Read this article with an open mind.
