Unable to Personalize/Customize Web Pages

J

Jack White

My IE6 browser won't 'remember' personalized/customized settings on any web
page -- for instance, my account numbers on my bank and credit card company
web sites, local news/weather/stock preferences on MSNBC, the e-commerce
sites I use, etc. When I leave the sites and then navigate back to them
later, the personalized information that's supposed to be remembered is
gone, requiring me to re-enter it. Cookies are enabled, but I can't find a
setting in Internet Options that has any effect. This is only a problem in
IE6 and doesn't happen in Netscape Navigator. Does anyone have any idea of
what's up and what I can do about it?

Happy New Year.

Jack,
That type info is usually stored in a Cookie from each site .......
After you close your browser, do your Cookies still exist?

Internet Options | General [tab] | Settings [button] | View Files [button]
The Cookies are stored as "somesite.txt"

Yup, Mike, they do ... I've even specifically allowed
cookies for certain sites by overriding cookie handling
for some web sites, in addition to allowing first and
thrid party cookies. It's baffling me.

Jack,
3rd party Cookies are *never* required .... and should NOT be allowed.

Perhaps you Cookie's "index.dat" is corrupt?
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

You could Export your Cookies, delete the above index.dat, then
restart and "Import" them to rebuild the index.dat.

Otherwise ....scan your system for the possibility of
unknown\unwanted spyware or parasites that may be causing your problem(s).
