Unable to open .ppt file with XP machine

I could use some help to find a resolution for this. I am unable to open an exisiting. ppt file on my XP machine "becasue part of the file is missing". The .ppt file was created on a Win 2000 Pro machine. I've already taken some steps in an attempt to remedy the situation (Check for Updates, Detect & Repair) but nothing has worked so far. Thanks for any help
 
Was the file emailed to you or did you download it? It sounds like you
don't have the whole thing. Either try downloading again, or ask the sender
to zip it up and send it to you again.
