unable to open or view jpg's

I attempted to copy my vacation jpg's to a cd using
windows xp explorer and experieced problems.

Now I am unable to open or view the jpg's on Drive C or
the cd. My guess is the jpg header information has been
stripped or the files are now in an urecognizable format.

Any suggestions on how to recover and these files would be
appreciated.

If you open the folder you saved the images in on
Drive C:...are the files in the folder?

Have the extensions changed, and if so ..what is
the new extension?

What happens if you try to open the files?

Did you accidentally delete the files? Have you
looked in your recycle bin to see if they could
possibly be recovered?

John,

Thank for the reply.

I attempted to drag & drop the jpg's from my picture
folder to cd. The CDR wizard started and wrote an
unopenable jpg file to the cd and automatically deleted
the original jpg's from the c: drive folder. I am left
with jpg's on my cd that will not open even when copied
back to the c:drive.

There are no original files on my c: drive folder or the
recycle bin.

The jpg files have a .jpg extension and I have tried to
rename a few files with a new .jpg extension just to
verify that the file extension has not changed.

By the way, I just tried the same drag & drop on the
sample jpg folder with the same results.

I'm stumped.

You may have dropped these files in another folder by accident. I would try
searching the hard drive for them.
Click on Start, click on Search, Pictures. For all or part of the filename
enter something you remember. If you don't remember anything about the file,
type exactly the following in the box:
*.jpg
This will search for all your jpg files.
Also select the advanced settings options to search system folders, hidden
files and search subfolders.
This will then displays the jpg files on your hard drive. Select the
thumbnail view to recognize the photos. You can then find where the photo is
by right click on it, and on Properties.

I read your question and was actually wondering if you
could help me. I deleted some pics from a floppy and
would like to recover them, already tried recycle bin and
couldn't find them any suggestions?

gigi,

Try a google search for PC Inspector file recovery. Then
go to the website and download the free program.
