Cannot open files with extension .jpg

Yesterday, I discovered that I was unable to open .jpg files from a floppy
disk. I tried to open .jpg files on a second disk and was unable to do this
as well. I then tried to open .jpg files saved to my computer. Again, no
luck. In all three cases, windows explorer crashes.

Do you happen to have Adobe PhotoShop or
Elements installed?

If you do...right click on a .jpg file and choose
Properties. Click the Photoshop Image tab
and uncheck the "Generate Thumbnails" button,
then click OK.

No, I don't use Adobe PhotoShop or Elements.

I've also used my virus scanner, but it hasn't found anything.

Just wondering...did you right click a .jpg
image file...choose Properties...and look
for the PhotoShop Image tab? Maybe
someone else installed an evaluation version.

Have you...installed / uninstalled / updated...
anything recently that may be causing this
issue?

Is your video driver up to date? It may be
worth a try to reduce your Graphics Hardware
Acceleration to see if an improvement is
realized.

The following article explains how...just
scroll down to: "Reduce the Graphics Hardware
Acceleration Setting" / "Microsoft Windows XP".

It's also a possibility that your WinXP User
Account is corrupted. Creating a new account
may clear up the issue.

Thank you for your help.

I installed Windows XP SP2, and I am now able to view .jpg files. I am not
sure why this worked, but it was something I had been putting off anyway. :)
