Unable to open Encrypted Pictures

I encrypted my files a week ago and had no problems viewing my images while
encrypted. I had some major issues with a trojan and ran the WINDOWS REPAIR
utility (after cleaning with all kinds of cleaners). Now I cannot open any
images saved on my hard drive - I have 8 years of kids pictures. Please help
me. AS SOON AS I CAN READ I WILL BACKUP TO DVD - PROMISE

ps I didn't realize I needed to save/export a certificate. When I looked at
the stored certificates through IE, it had one under PERSONAL valid from
12/27/05 to 2100 something, the 27th is approximately when I encrypted the
files in question.

Thank You,

Did you perform some sort of "Repair install" - is that what you are saying?
If so - and you did not export your key - you may be out of luck
unfortunately.

I guess that's what is called 'repair install' - i inserted the xp cd and
when it asked me did i want to install a new copy of xp or repair an existing
one, i told it 'repair an existing one'.

after all was said and done, my username and password worked w/no problem -
i launched IE and found a certificate under 'personal' labeled with my
username. although i didn't export prior repairing, how did that certificate
appear there again plus it had a valid date from 12/27/05 . . .?

What would you do at this point?
