I am running XP Pro Sp1(upgrade from XP Home) on a Dell Inspiron and cannot
open most of the Control Panel Applets. I have searched Google and MS
Knowledge base to no avail. Any Help would be appreciated

Thanks

Start with the obvious: what does a scan with a current version (not
earlier than 2003) antivirus using updated definitions show? Have you
scanned for spyware also? Let us know so we can narrow down the
troubleshooting.

Thank You for the reply.

The Laptop in question has a Trend Micro Client installed. That is a client
of a SBS 2003 system. To date the anti-virus/spyware scans show no problems.

OK, were the Control Panel applets ever available? If not, this is
probably controlled by a Group Policy on the domain server. If they
were available before, what changed between the time things worked and
the time they didn't?

Thanks Again

They have worked prior to the upgrade to XP Pro and connection to the SBS
Domain. The workstaions on the SBS network Lan do not have this problem.

So there is no Group Policy on the domain that prevents Control Panel
applets from being seen? Were the workstations on the "SBS network Lan"
also upgraded from Home to Pro or were they clean installs?

Although I manage the Server and Workstations I am unfamiliar with Group
Policy but I haven't created such a policy. The workstations were clean
installs and are now at SP2.

If you are the systems administrator and you haven't created a Group
Policy, then there isn't one. I don't have an answer to your question,
but I would suggest you contact Microsoft tech support. I have found
their tech support for server operating systems to be superb and well
worth it.

Malke

Thanks I will give them a call
