unable to open attatchments

Hello,
I have had the Windows Vista o/s for about a year now but about two months
or so ago I became unable to open any attatchments emailed to me. These are
monthly emails that worked fine up to that point. I brought my computer back
to Best Buy, but after running a virus scan and full diagnostics they were
at a loss. They said that maybe a update caused a malfunction. I'm at a
loss. I really need my email to work properly. Can you help?

What is the file extension of the attachments, .doc, .pdf etc?
