unable to open any more windows after a certain amount of time

Why am I unable to open any more windows on my computer after a certain
amount of time?
I surf the Internet a lot and open a lot of new windows all the time. After
opening up so many new windows, my computer seems to "run out of memory" and
will not allow any more new windows to open.

Even if I try to right click, the little right click menu won't open.
Sometimes it won't even open the shut down menu. Why does it do this?

This is a brand new DELL inspiron 6400 centrino duo 1 computer. It has 520
MB of Ram and a 60 GB hard drive. There is 15 GB of available hard drive
space on my computer. So why would it say a message like "not enough memory
to do this action, try closing out some programs and try again."

Please help! It's so aggravating to have to reboot every hour!

Thanks in advance!

You probably have 512MB of memory, which is okay but certainly not
impressive. The free 15GB is disk storage, not memory.

You don't say how many windows is "a lot" nor what those windows
contain. However, the contents of each open window is stored in RAM -
along with all the other software you have open or running in the
background - and, yes, eventually you will overrun your available memory.
