Unable to open add remove windows components

I am running Windows 2000 Pro on Dell notebook. Have had
no problems until recently cannot open add remove windows
components in add remove programs. I receive message
"unable to open information file reoptcom.inf error code is
0x2 at line 2086411188". When I search my hard drive I am
unable to find this file. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Supplemental follow-up:

Since you may not have been supplied with a Windows 2000 CD, consult your Dell manuals or their tech website for info regarding the "how-to" procedures required to accomplish the repairs specified in the MS article.

Eric, thanks for the help. I tried scanning with Windows
CD. Did not correct the problem. I will probably try in
place upgrade although I hate to lose service packs that I
have downloaded. But again, thanks for the help.
