Hi,

I am unable to login to windows 200 professional as I ahve no password or
username. I also have no disks. I have a laptop with this OS but no further
info as the company that provided the laptop have gone bust and the support
team are now working elsewhere with no way of finding the old info or CDs.

I am not particularly Techie, but figure an emergency boot disk would solve
my problems. Where could I get such an item for free download?

thanks in anticipation

Simply boot from the Win2K installation CD and use the Recovery
Console. Also, you could log in using the built-in Administrator
account and create a user account for your daily use.

Thank you both for your replies, but I don't have access to the CD or any
floppies, I would need to download these from the Internet I think.... but
don't know where..

Hmm, I don't know about changing the admin password without being able to
reboot. I use the boot cd / flopppy on a regular basis, but i cant say
i've done it without physical access to the tower... Good luck, post back
in the usenet group if you find a way, I'd be interested in learning .

Cheers,

They're not "downloadable."

If it was a retail license and you have proof of purchase, you can
order a replacement installation CD from Microsoft:

How to Replace Lost, Broken, or Missing Microsoft Software or Hardware
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;326246

If it was an OEM license, you'll need to contact the computer's
manufacturer. Although very few manufacturers/vendors keep records of
the licenses they've sold (or provide support to anyone other than the
original purchaser), it's worth a try before you have to buy a new
license.

How did you actually acquire this computer? Anyone who would have
had the legal authority to transfer its ownership to you should also
have to have had the OS/software CDs and licensing documentation, as
well as the Administrative password, to provide as part of the
transfer.
