Until a couple of days ago my email with Outlook 2003 running on Xp was Ok.
Now I get the Enter Network Password dialogue box. Hitting enter causes it
come back again. Looking at the error message I see
Task 'XXXX - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC92) : 'Your e-mail server
rejected your login. Verify your user name and password in your account
properties. Under Tools, click E-mail accounts. The server responded: -ERR
Cannot find a valid mailbox for YYY'
I am able to connect to the server using a different process so the mailbox
exists and the password is correct.
I have tried several proposed solutions, such as editing the registry but no
avail.
Help!!

Are you administrator on the network to the point you can look into
your individual mail settings on your system? If so check to ensure
that (in the case your the only one using outlook on that system) in
account properties.....ensure it is set to use selected profile..

what mail server are you trying to connect to? is it a domain mail box or a
gmail / yahoo type mail account..

Thanks

David

what type of mail account are you using? exchange (usually at work) or a web
mail account (gmail, yahoo or something similar)?

Thanks

David

I am using an email account that resides on my son's server. I suppose that
makes it a web mail account.

Inasmuchas I haven't changed anything and it has stopped working then it must
be set correctly. Mustn't it?

i presume your son has his own mail box on that server, and he can connect
fine? also i would suggest you check that he hasn't made changes to the
server that would prevent access via outlook.

No he hasn't made any changes.
I spoke to him at the start of this and we established that I am able to
login to the mail via a different route so the account is still there and the
password is unchanged. And he tells me he has done nothing. I t seems clear
that it is an Outlook problem. don't you think?

I would agree that this is an outlook problem, and it may be worthwhile
creating a new outlook profile to rule out the possibility that your outlook
profile hasn't become corrupt. the link provided provides a how to
http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/profile.htm

hope this resolves your problem

thanks

Well I went to bed, and it is a new day.
Thanks for the suggestion but that didn't work either.
I tried an alternative email program (Pegasus Mail) late yesterday and that
came up with the same problem., So it has to be something on my machine that
is common between different email programs.
I have checked that I can still log in to my email account using a web page
and it is still OK, with several new emails waiting.
If you have any new ideas then that would be good. Otherwise I wil try
re-installing Outlook, if only I could find the disk.

sorry that didn't help... i can recreate similar problems to yours by
entering incorrect data in the email account settings, but as you have
checked and confirmed that these are correct...

does anyone else connect to his server via outlook? if not i would suggest
somebody tries just to totally rule out server problems (updates, firewall,
etc), and i take it the server is not at your home?

thanks

david
