Unable to log on to xp!

Last night I went into the Control Panel and changed User info so that I
thought I would not need to type in a password and changed to only 1 user for
my computer. Mainly because my children are now off to college and it's only
me and my wife using the computer.
I don't remember exactly what I did, but I can not log onto xp. It has my
user name and I'm supposed to type in my password. Everything I have tried,
my previous password I have been using up until tonight, along with anything
I could think of........ the "logon message" tells me that "the system could
not log you on. Make sure your User name and domain are correct, then type
your password again. Letters in passwords must be typed using the correct
case"
Nothing has worked. Is there a way to log on, or changing my user name
and/or password so that I can use my computer???
Thanks in advance for your help.

Since there is no way for me to know what you did, either - try logging
into the built-in Administrator account and doing a System Restore to a
date when everything worked.

In XP Home, boot the computer into Safe Mode. Do this by repeatedly
tapping the F8 key as the computer is starting up. This will get you to
the right menu. Navigate using your Up arrow key; the mouse will not
work here. Once in Safe Mode, you will see the normally hidden
Administrator account. The default password is a blank.

In XP Pro, you do not need to go into Safe Mode. At the Welcome Screen,
do Ctrl-Alt-Del twice to get the classic Windows logon box. Type in
"Administrator" and whatever password you assigned when you set up
Windows.

If you reset the built-in Administrator account's password in Home or
have Pro and don't remember the password, use NTpasswd to change the
built-in Administrator account's password to a blank.

You can also login as the built-in Administrator and delete the password for
the problematic user account.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
I was able to log on as an administrator and I'm doing a "system restore" as
I am writing this on another computer. Time will tell, hopefully in a few
minutes!
