Unable to locate installation log file

I have an issue trying to uninstall some programs through the Add/Remove
Programs utility. I get the message "Unable to locate installation logfile"
and the uninstall stops. I do not have the disks for these programs to try
and re-install them and then uninstall them. Is there another method I can
use to uninstall these programs from my system? I am running Windows XP
Professional with SP2.

If you can't get the discs, you can try and remove the pieces manually.
PROCEED WITH CAUTION. A full system backup first would be a good idea.

Something like this:

1. Record the name of the folder the program is in, and the name of the
program

2. Delete the folder (if you can copy it somewhere else first, do so). If
you get a message that a file is in use, reboot in "safe mode" and try again.

3. Remove any references to the program from your "Start" menu.

4. Backup your registry, then search for and remove references to the
program file and the folder. Be very careful; sometimes other things can have
the same or similar names. If you don't know how to safely use the registry
editor, you can find help online (but it might be best to get experienced
help).

This doesn't guarantee you'll get everything. Some programs have a nasty
habit of putting files in the Windows directory, or other places. A search of
the web page for the program's vendor, or a Google search for the program
might yield more information.
