Check Event Viewer and Device Manager for errors and or non-starting
devices. Check the hardware manufacturer's web site for the latest Windows
2000 driver for your device.

This was a driver for a ATI TV card which I removed and
disposed ofd evice. Device manger shows no trouble devices
and event viewer is giving the message I posted. Can
anything be removed in system files?

To display hidden devices, non-Plug and Play devices, and devices not
attached to the computer (commonly known as "ghosted" or "phantom" devices)
From a command prompt;

set DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1
then
start devmgmt.msc

Then, use Device Manager to remove the device.

Can not get set DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1 to work.
I open cmd from run and type in command and get error. If
I open devmgmt.msc and click view and show hidden devices
I see no trouble devices? I must be doing something wrong

Thanks

2. The ATI WDM Teletext Decoder service failed to
start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is
disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated
with it.

3. The ATI TV Wonder BtCap, WDM Video Capture service

How about saving yourself lots of time... there are problems settin
system wide variables in a command window.

So instead of doing "set DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1".
(Which if you probably right-clicked on my computer and set it as
system variable might even work. Lets not even go there.)

Try just opening you device manager and click up on the top bar, wher
it says view. I know how in linux you set this and that... but hec
this is windows.

Now once the menu drops down there is a "Show Hidden Device" o
something to that effect. That will save you a lot of time.

Then remove the hidden drivers you no longer use, you may even want t
og through and clean other ones that are no longer in use. Just t
have a cleaner system. But dont remove the wrongs ones ;) I hope thi
helps
