Unable to launch Outlook 2002

When I attempt to launch Outlook, I get the following
message "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Could not open
item try again." Any ideas as to how I may resolve this
issue?

New profile? Detect and Repair? When did this error message start
appearing and what did you install/uninstall just prior?

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, John asked:

Does it work when you start in safe mode?
Start-> Run; "path to Outlook.exe" /safe
