Unable to Install "Software" Printers

F

Father Mike

There are days when I hate computers.

WinXP SP2

I can't add what I have chosen to call "software printers" i.e., fax and
PDF printers. Listed is software I've tried to install and the associated
error messages.

Snappy Fax - Failed to add printer driver. Error #126: The specified module
could not be found.

Acrobat - Warning 20225. Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional Setup was unable to
create a new item: Adobe PDF Printer may be unavailable. GetLastError: The
specified module could not be found.

PrimoPDF - Unable to install printer PrimoPDF - PrimoPDF :(1797)

Communicate! - No fax printer installed.

I have in my printers and faxes folder: Winfax, doPDF, Konica Minolta, and
Cuteprinter (PDF) and all of these work, indicating there was a time I
could add this type of printer. I can manually install a hardware printer.

Does anyone know why I can no longer install fax and PDF printers?

The correct terminology for what I called "software printers" is virtual
printers.

With the capable assistance of Snappy Fax technical support I was able to
solve the problem. There are two elements to the problem.

1. Path environmental variable must point to the sytem32 and wbem
directories:

PATH=c:\windows;c:\windows\system32;c:\windows\system32\wbem

2. The file framedyn.dll must reside in the system32 directory. If it
doesn't, copy it there. It should be somewhere in the Windows directory.

After I performed those two steps the Snappy Fax printer installed, and the
Primo PDF printer installed, as I think would any other virtual printer.
