Unable to install software - memory seems constantly low

For the last week, I have been unable to install software.
The program opens up and starts to install and
then 'disappears' The tasks are still resident in task
manager but nothing is happening (no CPU usage).

At the same time, when I click on a link in my email
(Eudora 5) it now takes about 2-3 mins to open IE when
before it took about 2 seconds.

A friend mentioned in might be spyware in registry but I
had ad-aware installed and have run this and nothing. I
Have also just upgraded to from Norton SystemWorks 2003 to
2004 and am virus free (afaik).

Can anyone suggest what this problem might be?

do you have enough Hard disk space?

try download startup control panel
http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
(maybe Stand Alone exe are easier )
and disable unneccessary program.

I have similar problems off and on and it is almost always the CPU running at 100% - check your task manager to see if this is the case, if so kill whatever task is rolling the numbers on the TM screen
