Unable to install accessories

I have somehow managed to mess my system up. Paint and Calculator are no
longer in list of accessories. I have tried to re-install from Add/Remove
Windows components in Control Panel, and I get a series of error messages
that many small files are missing. The error msg states to insert Windows XP
disk--but it came installed on my computer. Any ideas? Thanks for any help.

Thanks, Mark. I didn't get too far with this process--the bar moved about 3
mm! The message I got was that "files that are required for Windows to run
properly must be copied to the DLL cache; please insert Windows XP Prof. SP2
CD"

It's possible you can find a hidden partition with an i386 folder on it, or
maybe even not hidden. you could point the 'source path' to this folder.

Your "Installation Path" can be reset. HKLM\Software\Microsoft\...
..Windows\Current Version\Setup:
Service Source Path
..Windows\Current Version\Setup:
Source Path .WindowsNT\Current Version - Source Path

With Pro edition:
run GPEDIT.MSC
Local Comp. Policy/Comp. Config/Admin. Templates/System "Specify Windows
Installation file location"

Thanks, Mark. I am not real sure how to reset the "Installation Path," or how
exactly to point to it. Could you help me? I do have a file named "I386" in
the WINDOWS folder.
Also, I do know about the registry, and how to back it up and restore it.
But I am not skilled enough to change it unless I have step by step
instructions.
I have Win XP Home edition, SP2 (and also recently SP3).
Would it help to re-install SP2? I have been unable to find a download on
Microsoft Downloads. Also, is there any application that can examine my
system to see if all the Microsoft programs and files are up to date, and not
corrupted?
Thanks for your patience,
Tom

Mark, thanks!!
I was able to re-install the calculator and other accessories. Now, I have
to do a whole lot of updating to Windows XP!
