Unable to import/link from Excel as it is greyed out in data acces

I want to import spreadsheet data into Access from Excel (Office 97). It is
not listed in the "get external data/import/ files of type box so I ran Setup
again. In the Data Type in setup the option for Excel, is ticked but greyed
out and shown as already installed. I am unable to uninstall it. Clicking
"Select all" does nothing. Three of the five options are the same. I have
checked the "Data Sources" folder and Excel Files (not shareable).dsn exists
there. Do not know where to go from here. I am a novice attempting to learn
how to use Access but this has pulled me up short.

Look for the file Msexcl35.dll on your hard drive (it should be in your
system folder), and use RegSvr32.exe to reregister it.

Thank you for your help. It worked in part. I can now import or link to any
Excel spreadsheet, (or text file or Btrive databasebut I am still puzzled as
these options are still greyed out when I look at "Data Access" in the setup
program. They work, which is the important thing, but to me I feel that there
is still something wrong. Am I woring about nothing?

Sorry: I didn't have access to my "canned answers" yesterday when I replied,
or I would have given you the following more complete reply:

Sounds like this is the problem discussed in
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=155666
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=171955

Look for the file msexcl35.dll on your hard drive (it should be in your
System folder) and use regsvr32.exe to reregister it.

If you're missing other file choices, do the same for mstext35.dll,
msxbse35.dll and mspdox35.dll

Thank you for quick reply.
As I said, I am now able to import from Excel etc thanks to following your
suggestions. I was concerned that there might still be some kind of internal
problem causing the continued greying out of these options in "Setup/Data
Aceess". I have printed out the two KB articles you suggested and will read
and try to understand.
Regards
Alan
