unable to format

Hi all

Looking for some help with a problem with Windows XP.

I cannot get the Format function to work properly. If I use the format
command in explorer it reports that it was un-able to format because I am
using disk management software, which I am not, if I use the format option
in admin tools I still get the same message but can use the force a format
option, but this method only allows me to format the hard drives, their is
no floppy drive option.

Anyone know what the problem is.

It might help if you told us what exactly it is you are trying to format
because it isn't very clear from your post.

What are you trying to format? If it is the partition where Windows is
(or where the page file is if different) you cannot do it with windows
running, but as part of a new setup after booting the CD.

If it is a different hard drive partition, go to Control Panel - Admin
Tools - Computer Management, select Disk Management and look lower right
for the graphic of the drive. - r-click in a partition and it is an
Option

If it is a CD-RW, the system does not have provision for using the disks
in the mode that requires formatting - see

If you are trying to format a diskette which is not a 3.5 inch 1.44 MB
diskette, XP does not directly support that type of format!
