A client has called up with the following catalogue of errors:

1) He has opened a Word attachment, deleted the e-mail, emptied his Deleted
items - result - e-mail now gone

2) He then made changes to the Word file and clicked "save" without taking
note of name of the file

3) Yes you guessed it - he then closed the file

He now wants me to tell him how to recover it. He doeasn't know the name of
the temp internet folder it went to, has not got the e-mail and ha no idea of
the name of the file - any help appreciated please - thanks

Tell him to do is a search for *.doc files on his computer. I prefer the
free Agent Ransack program to do searching on XP boxen.

He can also look in %systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\username\Local
Settings\Temp.

Make sure he is able to see all hidden files and extensions (View tab in
Folder Options). In XP, there are four checkboxes to deal with:

a. Check "Display the contents of system folders".
b. Check "Show hidden files and folders".
c. Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types".
d. Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and click "OK" to the
dialog box.

In addition to the advice Malke provided, you might want to
tell your client to open Word and go to the File menu on the
toolbar. If Word isn't used frequently, he may see the file
listed at the bottom of the menu among the most recently opened
documents.

Good luck
