I am unable to download files. I try saving them to the desktop, they don't
show up. I save them to a network drive, they don't show up. I use the
default path in Vista and they are not there. If I use my old XP and do it
through my network, they show up. Why can't I download and save programs in
Vista? Any help would be appreciated.

But it " looks like" they download ( you get the growing bar etc ) ?

If you're sure of the filename, try a SEARCH on your PC ( all drives).
Or next time you try, note the folder - any of the 'past files' in there
? I've done that thinking that I was downloading into one folder and
really the folder was a subfolder with the same name as another ( or
maybe Windows folder, BUT on different drive)

I have looked everywhere and searched on every combination I can think of.
They are not on any of the hard drives. I can't even open forwarded email or
save attachments with Vista. I'm not a novice with this stuff. But this is
ridiculous. The downloaded files are not on the computer anywhere. Goes
through all the motions but nothing is saved.

Have you tried going to Explorer, in the left pane at the very top,
expanding your user's folder? I've seen Vista stick stuff there and
also in the Documents folder and having looked everywhere else, that's
where some files ended up.

Tried that. They are not on this computer. If I go to my old XP computer and
download them to an external drive I have hooked to the Vista machine it
works fine. But I shouldn't have to do that. Am about ready to format the
drive and intall XP Pro on this thing.

If you want to format and install XP by all means do so. However, you may
want to search for ROAMING before you format.
