Unable to Export Messages from Windows Mail

When using File/Export/Messages after selecting the empty destination folder
on flash stick, I get the following message -- "Windows Mail unable to
export all of your messages. Your disk may not have enough space or some
messages may be corrupted. Run Disk Cleanup or delete some files then try
again." I have done all that and am sure I have available space. Does
anyone have any ideas on how to overcome this glitch?

It's possible that your flash stick isn't big enough, or that WM needs
working space on the destination drive. Try exporting to a folder on your
hard disk.

earle, Thanks for the suggestion. able to export to desktop folder. size
was 165MB. Flash stick had over 450MB available so mystery remains as to why
we couldn't do this in one step. I suppose now I can just drag and drop the
desktop folder onto the stick then import to new computer. Do you see any
problems ahead?

Earle, As luck would have it I am stymied on the Import side. Tried to
import directly from the stick but no joy. Then copied files from stick to
desktop of new computer with Windows Live Mail, but could not import from
there either. Any ideas?

Mac, Thanks for suggestion. I have sen this but have been unable to find
"App Data" within the user profile. Can you tell me how to get there?

Windows Mail can't import/export directly to/from external media.
First export to an empty folder under your user profile on the hard drive,
then copy from there to the external media.

Those are hidden and perhaps protected OS files, so go to Control Panel |
Folder Options (or Tools | Folder Options in Explorer) | View and uncheck
the option to "hide extensions of known file types" and then enable showing
hidden files and folders as well as protected and OS files and then you can
find the directories and the eml files.

Indeed they were hidden. Once i found them I proceeded as suggested and all
went well. wonder why it can't just work as an Export/Import as with
Favorites and Contacts?? Thanks a bunch for your help.

Gary, Thanks for info. I was successful in doing that as an Export process
, but when I tried that process in reverse to import to new computer it
wouldn't import fromthe new c: drive. I was successful with "brute force"
method suggested by Steve, but it is cumbersome. I like your way better but
haven't been able to make it work all the way. Thanks so much for explaing
the limitation of windows mail. Now i know why it seemed I was butting my
head against the wall.
