Unable to download my camera now. A few weeks ago it worked. I'd have to
start my camera first then start the computer in order for it to recoginize
the camera.
Camera is about 5 years old. Support no longer available from Kodak.

Assuming you mean "Connect to and download images from your camera"...

You should uninstall whatever software you have installed for the camera,
reboot and try reinstalling it.
You also may want to give the model of the camera when asking for help.

You don't actually need Kodak software. Assuming you have a USB connection, Plug in the
camera and look under My Computer. It should be listed as a drive. If you use a cradle, as
I do, you need to push the Connect button to open the connection. There is a time limit --
how long, I don't know. Maybe 5 minutes or so. If you set Explorer to Thumbnail view you
can see what you have. To download to your favorite directory, just drag and drop.

PS - Good info if you rt-click on a picture and select Properties.

Sorry I guess I should have included the Cmaera model. It is a Kodak DC 4800.
I have used different USB ports thinking that one may be defective. I have
uninstalled and reinstalled the camera software. I put fresh batteries in the
camera.
I know that I don't need my camera software to download and view.
the computer just won't recognize the camera.

Thank you for your post, I do have a USB connection, When ever I plug the
camera in it doesn't read on the computer. I go to my computer and it doesn't
show that it is connected. You used the term cradle, I have never heard of
that before, Sorry!

Buy a card reader. Remove card from camera. Insert card into card reader.
Connect card reader to computer using any USB port. Card reader will now
appear as a drive.

Copy photo files from the card to wherever you wish.

Eject card from card reader. This is a software eject that you see by right
clicking on the drive. Do not just remove the card.

Put the card back in the camera, and go back to taking photographs. By the
way, just to be safe, only format the card with the camera.

Send Kodak's software to the big bit bucket in the sky.

IF you don't hear the "bong" indicating that WinXP has discovered a USB
device, it suggests that (1) the camera's output is defective; (2) the
computer's USB jack is defective; or (3) the cable is defective. You
said that you tried different USB jacks on the computer, so it's
probably not (2) (although you might want to confirm that by plugging in
another USB device, if you have one). Is there some setting in the
camera that you need to activate? If you can borrow a cable, you might
want to try that. I don't think it's worth buying a new camera to USB
cable. If you're going to buy anything, buy a card reader that works
with the particular kind of memory card in your camera.

Thank you for your help.
I Do hear the noise when I unplug my USB cable from the camera or turn off
the camera while it is connected to the computer.
The camera shows that it is working like it did before when I looked at my
picutres.
I have used the camera and computer many many times to look at my photos, to
put them in a file, E-mail them and print them at outside source. For the
life of me I can not figure out what is wrong. I have taken about a 1000
photos.
Frustrating!
Thanks again!!!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP JOYCE AND ME!!!

I have the same connection problem with my kodak camera. It's a z730.
Everything worked fine until about a month ago... and now I cannot transfer
pictures to my computer.
Here is what happens:

I turn on my computer. I connect my camera through a USB port. My computer
"dingdongs" like it has recognized that something is connected. Sometimes it
will even show the pop up bubble in the bottom right that says your z730 is
connected. HOWEVER, when I try to transfer through easyshare, it freezes or
says "unable to get device information." I would love to no longer use
easyshare at all, but My Computer won't show my camera under the devices
section either.
I have tried refreshing My Computer, but my dig camera never appears. I
have uninstalled easyshare completely through their help line, but that
doesn't work. I have downloaded the most recent version of easyshare... but
nothing works!

Why in the world would XP show that my camera is connect and then fail to
list it under my computer?????

PLEASE I JUST WANT TO SEE MY PICTURES ON A SCREEN BIGGER THAN 2 inches!

Paul

Thank You Paul, I thought I Did something wrong. Everything worked fine and
then nothing. what is up with that!!! I did go out yesterday and buy a Card
reader, Scan Disk Image Mate, $22.00 at Best Buy. Now I will learn that
process.
I can finally see the photos that I have taken.
I read several reports on Card readers and I was leary on the purchase. It
worked for me right away.
Thanks again for your input.
