Unable to download images from theWeb

Right Click on Image -> Save the picture as..
In the save as typebox.. it gives me 2 options "Art
Image", "BitImage" whereas the original image is a 44KB
GIF.
When saved on desktop, it is saved as a 22KB file and when
double clicked, it opens a samll red cross in MS Picture
Manager.

Right Click and Copy,paste aslo doesnt work.
Set as Background works,
Copy and pasted on a PAINT, it worked fine ..

PLEASE HELP ME to directly save the image so that i need
not follow the process of copy-- paint-- paste -- save --
open again--------
