Only saving images as BMP, not JPG???

MikeC

This is strange, after my last reformat, I installed Windows XP SP2. Now,
whenever I go to right-click an image in my browser and 'save picture as',
it will only allow me to save it as a BMP. This sucks because then I have
to open the picture with Paint and re-save it as a JPG. How can I fix this?

Do a little cleanup.

Clear the Temporary Internet Files. In IE>Tools>Internet Options>
Delete Files button. And check the box to Delete Offline content.

Hi Mike,

If the proposed Save As format is GIF, the picture is a GIF file. If you
want to convert it to a JPEG, you could use Irfanview (www.irfanview.com).

Guys,
I've tried just about every post and nuthing seems to work. Every image on
the website wants to save as a bmp. I've emptied TIF folders, deleted
Downloaded Prgram Files. Nothing works. What the heck is wrong with my PC?

This issue can occur if you have "Do not save encrypted pages to disk"
selected in Tools, Options, Advanced Tab and are loading the page over a
secure connection (https).

You may not see this, but in case you do ;
Empty your Temp Internet file/cache.

Also, if you Save as... xxxx.jpg , making sure to add the .jpg
extention to the name of the file/pic, it will be saved as a jpg
without messing around with Paint, etc..

I've also been having this problem for some while. I've previously followed
the advice given in Knowledge Base articles 260650 and 810978, which has
also been given in the other replies to this posting, and the problem has
rectified itself. However on the latest occasion the advice has not
rectified the problem.

The problem occurs in both IE (IE 6.0 with XP SP2 and all the latest
patches) and OE.

To save pictures I now have to open in something else, which can be a right
pain in IE, and then save.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks in anticipation.

That happens when the Temporary Internet Files are too full. In IE click
Tools | Internet Options. Click Delete Files in the Temporary Internet
files section of the General tab. On the next window place a check mark in
the box to Delete all offline content.

If that doesn't fix it, go to Tools | Internet Options | Advanced and scroll
down to the Security section. Uncheck "Do not save encrypted pages to
disk".

Click Start/Run and type this command to fix the 'Content Type' settings:

regsvr32 /i mshtml.dll
(and/or)
regsvr32 /i shimgvw.dll (for WinXP)

I'm afraid this doesn't work. As I pointed out in my previous post I've
already tried these and I'm afraid they don't work.

Delete IE Objects like Java, ...., and you can save your images as jpg,
jpeg, gif, bmp. Srart redownloading and installing Objects and after each
installation check to see if you still are able to save images in their
original format. If you cannot then that last Object is faulty or not for
your OS or improperly installed.

As my first point stated I've already done this, as per the MS Knowledge
base article, and it now doesn't help (though it used to).
