I have a friend that is unable to download .exe files - all she gets is a
blank page with an image position holder icon in the upper right. All other
extensions works fine. I have not been able to find a fix on the Internet -
I have done a repair install of XP Pro, uninstalled and reinstalled IE,
still no joy.

Could be an antivirus program setting or firewall filter setting.

You may want to check the following registry setting if you feel comfy with
registry edits.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htmlfile\DefaultIcon
The valuedata should be something like: C:\Program Files\Internet
Explorer\iexplore.exe,1

Hi! Mike!
If it is only .exe files, then read on and see if this is
relevant:
You may have an invalid plugin.
Netscape-Style Plug-ins Do Not Work After Upgrading
Internet Explorer
[Q303401]
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;303401

Remove the plugin >
Start-Run-Regedit.exe
Navigate down to this key and remove it, after exporting
it as a
normal safety precaution.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Plugins\Extension\.exe

If that key exists, then you will see what plugin has
been installed.
The key does not normally exist.

If you are running NAV disable during downloading.

Right on! Somehow, .exe was trying to open with QuickTime! Renamed the .exe
entry, and worked fine, then deleted it.
Thanx a bunch - she is very happy!
