unable to double-click to open using Excel 2002

Cannot open Excel 2002 files by double-clicking the file
name. Have followed the steps in the knowledge base
(unset the ignore other applications option) without
success.
 
You might try holding shift key. Right-click on file and select Open
with... in the resultant dialog, select Excel Worksheet AND check the box
that says 'always use this program for this type of file' and click OK.
This re-registers excel files to be read by excel.
