unable to delete partition

I'm in the Storage -> Disk Management section of Computer Management
and see a hard drive with three partitions. On two of the partitions,
if I right click, I see the following menu options:

Open
Explore
----
Change Drive Letter and Paths...
Format...
----
Delete Logical Drive...
----
Properties
----
Help

On the third partition, however, all I see is this:

----
Help

How can I delete this partition? The partition, presumably, contains
restore functionality for a computer I bought a while ago, but... the
motherboard failed and I'd now like to use the hard drive in another
computer.

Any ideas?

If it was an HP machine google for: HP recovery manager

They have a utility for deleting and merging that locked partition.

If it's was not an HP...
go to the website of the mfg to see if they have a similar utility.

BTW: It's probably not a very large partition
and you may not gain that much extra room on the drive...so it may not be
worth the effort

Is it really a partition, or just unallocated space?

Is it the Extended partition which actually holds the two Logical
partitions?

If it's a partiton type which XP's partition management doesn't
recognise, you might need something like gParted, or BootItNG to re-
partition as you want.
gParted is free, BootItNG is free trial for 30(?) days, which should
be long enough for you to fix your drive.

Good luck.

Good luck

Hello,

Get the GParted Live CD which you can boot from. It contains the GParted
Partition Manager program which provides a GUI based interface to
managing your partitions. It handles Windows file systems as well as
Linux and is free.
