unable to delete files

I unfortunately downloaded an image from the net and it
had attached a plethora of pop ad access problems. I have
tried to delete these items from my hard drive and hav
ebeen unable to do so eith using my delete button or
using shift-delete combo. The message pops up saying it
cannot delete as it is eithe write protected or in use.
How can I eliminate this stuff? Thanks

Try booting into safe-mode and repeat the normal deleting procedure......
