Unable to create the folder,'New Folder'.The drive cannot find the sector requested.

When trying to create a new folder within a desktop folder, the following window pops up:
Unable to create the folder,'New Folder'.The drive cannot find the sector requested.
This is similar to the message I receive when I try to move a new folder which I've created on my desktop-with no problem- into an existing folder already on the desktop. For example, I have a "music' folder on the desktop. I rip a CD into MP3 files, place them in a folder on the desktop, then drag that folder to the "music" shortcut. I've done this dozens of times, or have created a new subfolder within the music folder directly. Am now unable to do so , with the above error message appearing.
What's up???
Happy New Year, and thank you for your help!!

Windows treats desktop folders as shortcuts. Therfore not allowing you to create a new folder in a desktop folder. Also these desktop folders cannot be backed up as easily. I recommend using my documents or another folder and create a shortcut on your desktop. Hope this helps.

I can make new folders (they are not shortcuts) on my desktop and make
new folders in those folders - I consider that to be normal for
Windows.
