Unable to create New Folder

When I open up Microsoft Explorer and click on file (as I want to create a
new folder) the egg timer appears and sits there for about 40 seconds and
then explorer closes and goes back to the desktop. What is going on?
Thnx in advance for any insight on how to solve this problem.
 
Did you post this *after* doing a virus scan and also scanning for Spyware?
