Unable to create Chart in Powerpoint

G

Receive the following message whenever I try to create a chart in Power Point
2007:
Information.
Some chart types cannot be combined with other chart types. Select a
different chart type.

Fully updated, have tried diagnostics - no problems noted, opened Excel
first - problem still the same.

Any ideas? Thanks.

FWIW I had this exact problem when I installed 2003 Excel and PowerPoint on
top of 2007 to check something out. For me uninstalling 2003 solved it.

Ah, good to know. Also, I just noticed the poster said he'd run diagnostics,
so my suggestion won't help! (Missed that at first, sorry.)

Thanks for the reply.

We did have 2003 installed, but uninstalled it before installing Office 2007.

I loaded the MS uninstaller just to check for any remnants and there is
nothing showing for 2003.

I guess I should just bite the bullet and try uninstalling and re-installing?

Bummer. I guess it's the next thing to try. Uninstall/reinstall didn't used
to seem to fix this kind of stuff, but I'm sure out of ideas. I wonder if
re-registering Excel 2007 would do the trick?

To reregister Excel, do this:

Choose Start, Run (if you're using Vista, hit Win+R to open the Run dialog)

Type the following:

Excel.exe /UnregServer

Then repeat, but this time use

Excel.exe /RegServer

Tried the reregistration of Excel (it opened with each command and I closed
it before reregistering- correct?)

But that didn't fix the problem.

I am reluctant to mess with uninstalling the whole Office Suite -- I did
turn off PPT and then reactivated it from the Change option in Add/remove
programs - don't know that that really changed anything.

Just wondered if you had any additional ideas? Thanks.

Thought I would post info on version of PPT from "About"
Microsoft Office Powerpoint 2007 (12.0.6307.5000) SP1 MSO (12.0.6320.5000)
in case that would offer any clues.

Your version indicates you have SP1 installed -- so you're up to date on
service packs.

Sorry, no more ideas here.
